Carrying Straps

I saw this handy hint today with French paddler Michelle Montoir.

Using a piece of rope and two short plastic tubes it is possible to make a simple but effective carrying strap which can be used when four paddlers need to share the burden of carrying a heavy kayak. The loop of rope is placed under the hull of the kayak, with the rope passing between the deck lines and the surface of the kayak. This helps to hold it in place. With one rope at the bow and one at the stern four simple carrying handles are produced meaning that it is much less strain when carrying a heavily loaded kayak.

A very useful technique and one which will help prevent injury on a multi-day trip.
