Clip that Paddle!
Another very simple and cheap but effective device to use to park your paddle has been submitted by Len van Halm. Len explained that this pipe wall clip can be bought from any DIY store and with just slight modification is the perfect bit of kit for that critical moment when both hands are needed whilst out paddling.
It is simple to attach to the paddle shaft, even with very cold hands and is just as easy to release. The paddle can be left floating safely alongside. The only modification required is the trimming of one end so that a hook shape is obtained. It is attached to the kayak by means of a short length of marine cord.
Once in position several other paddles can also be parked by lying the other paddle down in the water and then looping the attached paddle over it. This is difficult to describe verbally so the next time I'm out paddling with Len I'll ask for another photo of this simple device holding several paddles securely near the cockpit.
