Ecrehous - October 2008
Many sea kayakers who have visited the Ecrehous reef, midway between Jersey and France, rank it is one of the finest one day paddles that it is possible to complete. In March of this year the reef was hit by a powerful storm which co-incided with a large spring tide. Some of the damage at the Ecrehous was recorded on the BBC Jersey web site. A quick visit at the beginning of June revealed that many of the buildings were still showing signs of the power of the spring storm.
On Saturday 11th October 2008 we were able to visit the reef and it was a pleasure to see that the buildings had largely been restored to their former glory. There were just two bases left where the buildings had been completely destroyed in the March storm.
The photographs were all taken on the Saturday when, in perfect weather we had the reef to ourselves for most of our visit. A couple of French yachts moored offshore were, for the majority of the time the only other visitors. A delightful end of season paddle.
