France

As one of the largest countries in Europe it is hardly surprising that there is a large range of paddling opportunities within the coastal waters. From the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea to the more exposed granite coasts of the north west there is something to appeal to everyone.  Although if most sea kayakers were asked to select one region as their favourite it would be the waters around Brittany.  In addition once a year one of the more unusual paddling opportunities arises, the mass paddle through the centre of Paris. Many people are surprised that it is only allowed once a year but this is a reflection of the control which is exercised by the French authorities on all water users. Sea kayakers and their activities are controlled by the French government but that isn't what this section of the site is about. It is a celebration of the diversity of sea kayaking in France and hopefully the articles will reflect the pleasures of paddling in French waters.
