Pulling Split Paddles Apart

How often do we struggle to take paddles apart when we are on the beach at the end of the day and obviously it seems to be that the better the fit of the central ferrule, the harder that it is.  In addition, it also seems to be more of a problem when the weather is colder.  So there has to be simpler and more effective way of taking the paddles apart.

Well there is and it uses the stronger muscle groups of the legs.  It also has the added advantage that it protects the muscles of the back.

Place the paddle behind your thighs, with your hands about the same distance apart as when paddling forwards.  At this point start to bend your knees and gently pull the sections of the paddle apart.  The paddle should come apart easily in your hands with the minimum of effort.
I was first shown this method by Leon Somme in Washington last Easter and since then, I have been using this method of taking my Werner blades apart on a virtually daily basis.  It really does work so use this simple technique on a regular basis and make your life easier.
