Sulphur Mine - Milos

We visited this site, and camped on the beach, during our recent visit to Milos Greece. It is on the east side of this rich volcanic island, whose geology is absolutely spectacular and amazing. I've included the photos in our historical section as it was once a very important industrial site. Much of the machinery is still in situ and many of the workings and tunnels still open. We did not venture far as the whole place seemed very precarious with many deep open caverns/holes and excavations. Much of the furniture and fittings (beds) etc are also still in the buildings and in one room shoes end other personal belongings had been left at the end of the bed!

Unfortunately I don't know much about this site's history. Perhaps somebody else who knows something about it could let us know?
